TITLE: As most who are fans of Longtab know that we love honoring the history of Special Forces - especially its roots which includes the WWII era OSS (the Office of Strategic Services). There’s an amazing list of women who were instrumental in shaping events for the OSS and the theater of operations in which they fought. One amazing woman in particular is Virginia Hall.
Virginia Hall was a French-speaking American spy for the OSS in France during WWII. For over a year and half, she played a crucial role in organizing French resistance movements, supplied agents with money and weapons, operated safe houses and offered medical assistance to the wounded. What’s even more amazing, Virginal Hall was an amputee and walked with a discernible limp. Once the Nazis were on to her, she fled on foot through the Pyrenees mountains to Spain, covering over 50 miles a day in excruciating pain! After her return, she spent another 16 years in the CIA!
She was infamously known as “The Limping Lady” by both Allied and Nazi forces, and the Gestapo said “she is the most dangerous of all Allied spies”. So, we will call our brew “Limping Lady” in her honor!
She is the only civilian woman to be given the Distinguished Service Cross during WWII.
